The Beginning

The Beginning:

It was a sunny end of October morning, in 2021.

Tara and I went for our usual jog in the morning, a routine that we just took up together, to motivate eachother and have company. Tara has a history of running long distance which quite intimidated me, but I tried to one-man-up her with my stories of volleyball in my other life, and HIIT consistent training at home during the Covid nightmare.

We usually did this after dropping the kids to school. It must have been our 4th or 5th jog together, and we felt the endorphins kicking in, felt badass because we did not fizzle out. It felt like it was meant to be! I jumped on this energy train as I admire this woman so much, she is one of the two mums I have serious in awe girl crush on, she's a pure go-getter kind hearted no-nonsense person that seems to add incredibly great value to whatever action she takes in her life.

Infact, on our first ever scheduled day for a jog together, it rained cats and dogs and we were a bit put off by it; it was just impossible to run outside! But we filed that down under 'Tests from the Universe to prove that we mean what we set out to do' , we said nevermind, we park that simbolic first run on the 'I'm watching you, trust me... I'll get back to ya' shelf, we recognised that the Universe did want us to run, because of the sparkingly blue Nike running shoes Tara found on her road, that fitted her perfectly, and because it cut the guilt of eating 3 chocolate croissants for breakfasts (because fueling is important, and carboloading too- but more of that technical stuff later).

A pinky promise by the traffic lights on Church Road, by Willow Brook School.

We decided to, why not, run the Berlin Marathon! We have a year to train, Berlin is amazing, the experience will be great, and there will be a flashy purpose to our training!

So, we entered the ticket draw!

I mean, how hard can it be? We like running, Tara has done some long distance races in the past, I like my fitness nice and consistent, there are beer and sausages at Berlin, and it is a flat course, apparently great for a beginner!

It is our real hope that there won't be many "little did we know.." moments. I know, though, that there will have to be..
