The rainy Jumble Sale

Last Sunday the Jumble Trail happened!

It was a rainy day, that kind of drizzly day that seems stuck in twilight zone, with periodically strong showers

We started off well, even before the 11am advertised starting time, whilst we were still unloading the boxes and setting up the shop. A few ladies came immediately, rummaged through our stuff, and picked up some toys and clothes. Helped with our confidence! Then we have the passing traffic, with the kids yanking at the parents to start digging through the toys positionned strategically at the front . We had Tara being a natural at talking to people and having them pick up some stuff, and tried really hard to not have plastered over my face the thought of 'Please buy this sh*t, we gotta make money, pretty please think it's nice and buy some'. My plants did well, and thye're the only ones I felt  reluctant to let go - they're my babies, grown from seed! However, still about 50 tomatoes plants left, and I am trying to fit them up iin the garden best I can before I let some go to other people. Then we packed up the unsold stuff with a view to go to a carboot sale in the near future. All in all, a great day!

The highlights are:

1.  When we decided the rain was too much , and to get the marquee out and struggled to install it, by chance our friends passed by and helped with it - which was no easy job, given we did it on the pavement, and at some point even on the road. A lovely lady passing by chipped in lifting and pulling, making sure we don't break the windshields of the cars we were stretching the marquee over.

2. The rain was on and off, but when it was on, it was strong. The wonderful thing is that as soon as the rain stopped we've had a few punters passing by having a nosey and picking up stuff. We made a grand total of £75 ha, which, extrapolated too a non-rain warmish day, would have been 4 times more, for absolutely sure.  AAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGHHHhhhhhh, British weather ya'll be the death of me, it's ridiculous sometimes!!!

3. Artie Leo Maxi Ernie got involved and were amazing, although at some point they were playing sneaky games - stealing jewelry from our shop and hidinng it inside - it sort of defeated some purpose, but it fulfilled the other purpose, they had fun whilst the adults got to catch up and talk to other people. Actually, the littlest one mainly tried to walk away from the house, but as he's so cute he was visible and easily brought back.

4. Leo was on site when a little customer bought his pink flamengo soft toy, so he received £1. He was thrilled, and tht pound is now hidden in a secret place by him. He doesn not want to put it in the charity pot.

5. Some customers did not want their change back as we were raising money for charity. How kind, and how lovely can people be

6. As I potter around the house, I do not notice the missing decorations, or clothes, or boxes of things that have never been used. It's been a cleansing! Also, a lesson in overconsumption, and holding on to stuff that's valueless to one, but of value to other.

7. Some of our  friends visited, which was again just so nice.

All in all, a team effort day, that despite the rain felt like a success. Just hoping now that the kids do not ask for their promised wage for that day! (it went on compensatory ice lollies anyway)
